I was staggered again this morning during a conversation about the costs of educating a child in America. Many parents have committed to private, year ’round schooling for their children. Those who can afford it have joined the government and turned their backs on the nation’s public education system.

I imagine many spent the day or are still spending the day celebrating Valentine’s Day, in honor of the Saint Valentinius from the Catholic Church. Here’s a link to great background on the man who wasn’t connected with romance until centuries after he lived.

I’ve been troubled by black people, especially black Christians, who adamantly protest against the Black Lives Matter movement. They call the movement socialist, communist, an organization promoting gay rights, lesbian rights, and an effort to lead Americans, especially black Americans, straight to Hell for believing human rights more than freedom in Jesus.

A thought for this month. From several years ago: Who Determines History and Why? I was talking recently with the mother of a preteen student. She was complaining about a book her child was asked to read as a Black History Month assignment.

A Smerconish cablecast on CNN once asked a very important question: “Which poses a greater threat to the social fabric of the United States: Differences in race or differences in class?” The discussion was as important as the question.
